Fun With 3D

People have been telling me about Illustrator’s 3D abilities for a while, but I’ve just got around to playing with them.  Fun fun and pretty pictures.

can’t… stop… processing…

More drawing toys!

And more!

And more!

Aren’t they perty?  So simple, yet so fun.  By the way, I realize I haven’t explained what processing is:  Processing is a programming language and development environment created by Casey Reas and Ben Fry of the MIT Media Lab.  Processing was created with designers, artists, and the sort specifically in mind, but it’s still pure coding.  It’s essentially a simplified open source version of Java, and as such makes a good starting place for people interested in object oriented programming.  It’s particularly popular here, because Ben Fry was a visiting professor in the school of Design last year, and is a friend of Golan Levin (so Golan really pushes us to learn it).

More Processing

As mentioned in the last post: just… can’t… stop… playing with… processing…

Here’s a more geometrically complex version of the last applet - this time with pretty colors! Go ahead and click on it until you get something you like, then do a screen capture, and call it your own!

And it gets even better:

Boxes!

(just click and hold to get things going, both will pause again when you let up on the mouse button).

Processing!

So I’ve been spending way too much time learning processing. I’m enjoying it far too much really, to the point where I’m having a hard time getting myself to do my other work. At any rate, I thought I’d post a fun computational drawing applet I threw together. Check it out:
