Skworts (Skort)

Quote from my Coworker Jay, talking to his 10 year old daughter the tomboy:

“You want to play golf? Then you’re wearing the skort!”

Quitting (my job)

I just gave my notice at work. I was planning to wait until next week to do this, but one of the managers randomly started asking about my long term plans. Rather than lie and then reverse myself in a couple of days, I went ahead and gave my 6-weeks notice. I hope that, for the first time in my professional career, I will leave a company on good terms (in the past I’ve tended to get angry and walk out without giving notice).

Quitting a job is always a strange experience. You expect it to be some sort of relief, to feel good, vindicated in throwing down your naked opinions about how awful a place can be. Instead, I was simple and polite and the whole thing felt very awkward. My direct boss, the company president, wouldn’t even look at me and said almost nothing, leaving the talking to one of the other members of the management team. I almost felt guilty - something I never thought I would feel when I finally quit this job.

At least now I can finally go around and brag to everyone that I’m off to Carnegie Mellon, something I’ve been waiting a long time to do!
